Several weeks ago I went to a scrapday with my friend Sue and encountered one of these amazing little items. Basically, I can scrap on the go. Amazing. I can sit in class (I mean, you know, not that, um, I never, nope, never, especially not during PR) and scrap! Then, when I get home, I plug it into my Cricut and CUT.

I cannot stand it.

I'm such a dork.

But a crafty one.JCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813803770209303100.post-17138231896993152992010-06-29T16:26:00.000-07:002010-06-29T16:30:34.898-07:00Some of the better quotes of the dayFrom Mom:

I told her I got a RoadID with my information on it in case I get hit by (another) car and her phone number was listed on it after Phil. This has not been a good 24 hours for us as a dog family. To start, I come home from work to find that Uncle George has stuck you in the wrong crates. I don't blame you for being unhappy. Especially Jazz. Since after I left, Rock you evidently pissed in your crate. And since you were then put in Jazz's crate, you didn't really care. Poor Jazzy was forced into the crate she hates - which had been pissed in by you, Rock. So, Jazz, you did what any normal 11 lb. dog would do. You ate the side of the god damn crate and escaped. Well, shit.

So, mommy went to Petco with Aunt Mariah and bought you a new crate. I almost broke a finger trying to set it up, but finally, I did it. As I went to put the crate liner in the new crate, you, little Rocky, ran over and peed on my hand. And the crate liner. That was fabulous. Then I realized you had not only peed on your crate liner from earlier that day, the clean one I just had put in, but you peed in Jazz's crate during the day. Well, shit.

Speaking of shit, while I was washing your crate linens and bleaching the trays to get rid of your piss smell, one of you little assholes shit all over my room. Thanks. Love you.

So, little dogs, let's try to make today a better day. Let's hold our piss and shit until we are outside. Let's not eat crates. Let's make life easier for mommy while daddy is away for business since I have to clean up ALL of your messes when you do this.

Love,
MommyJCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813803770209303100.post-10788958901881375242010-06-15T06:59:00.001-07:002010-06-15T07:11:53.813-07:00YAY for Free Time!Well, its official. I passed all my classes and I'm a 2L. Thank jeebus.

Now my summer project is losing the weight that I put on during my first year. I started Weight Watchers the day after finals finished and it is working! I've also committed myself to running 10 5K's through the summer. The reason is tri-fold, tho, really. First, I want to quilt all the fun t-shirts you get from running in the races. Second, I'm going to do a shadow box with Phil & my racer numbers. Third, I need to lose the weight and if I pay for a race, I'm sure as hell going to run it.

My law school friend, Jenn, Phil, & I ran Kilometers for Karyn on Sunday, June 6 in West Orange, New Jersey. Since I had not run a step since about March, 2009, I was proud that I attempted to run a lot of the race AND finished under 40 minutes. Thank you so much to my friend and husband for cheering me on at the end. Both Jenn and Phil had great times and I was proud of both of them.

Last Saturday, June 12, Phil & I ran the Valerie Fund 5K at Verona Park. Phil cut a minute off of his time. I stayed about the same - but I would have done much better had I not pulled something in my right thigh. It felt like someone was stabbing me, but I jogged instead of walked, and finished at the same time, almost exactly as the Sunday before. Thank you to our friends Mark & Dianne, and their daughters, Aimee, Sara, and Sienna, for coming out and cheering us on. There is something about being bone tired and seeing your friends (and husband, who finished 10 minutes before you) cheering you on and into the finish line. If you have a chance, please come to any of our other races to do the same!

Our next 5K is June 21 in Millburn. I'm running with Phil & several friends from school. I have a goal of running four times a week, at least. Three days of training and one race (most weeks). This weekend we have no races, but maybe I can convince Phil to sign up for one, LOL.

Until then, I'm making baby samplers (I have a bunch to do!) and two wedding samplers :)JCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813803770209303100.post-24925231674894294142010-06-08T07:11:00.000-07:002010-06-08T07:13:28.493-07:00Yeah, so I haven't posted since MarchSo, I sort of suck at balancing life, school, work, and a blog. But guess what?? I'm DONE FOR THE YEAR! I won't consider first year in the books until I get my last two grades (waiting and not so patiently) in, but all in all, I loved school and I did pretty okay.

So, now I'm back to crafting! The first thing I did was make my boss a lawyer cross-stitch for his birthday. I forgot to take a picture, so that's a big blog fail. BUT, now I'm working on a whole bunch of cross-stitch samplers for my friends new babies, new homes, and weddings! I also am almost done with a quilt top for our bedroom, and I bought the Cricut Design Studio to catch up on scrapbooking.

I love having time off!JCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813803770209303100.post-16154383796654781482010-03-03T08:16:00.001-08:002010-03-03T08:18:23.954-08:00<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 227px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0dt6t_cPNLlwXjlyRKA40Duu-az5TbeFeNDayYX3iyOkVQTcr69qdY9jQ4F8xgZGxs4xmhC78L2NCn1ZlC6scgSj3yXv7b6n4eoU998iCN-_3xpzA5i8W362xMkztVUHu1qa1zXwQ6wyx/s320/nude-snow-woman-sculpture-rahway-nakedjpg-4991bcbba035bbb1_large.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444442664116695746" />

Nude Snow Sculpture in Rahway leads police to request she be covered up.

Really??? I spent all four spring breaks in undergraduate in the Florida Keys with my grandparents in their guest suite with various friends/sorority sisters each time. I wouldn't trade those breaks for the world. We ate, drank, went snorkeling, relaxed, & petted manatees.

So, now I'm in law school and guess what! The only time I actually CAN go on vacation is Spring Break again. Welcome to back to the age of 21. Husband and I are going back to Riveria Maya - the Moon Palace. Last spring when we were at the Sun Palace in Cancun, we took a day trip to the Moon Palace and loved it. So, we're going back. I'm looking forward to relaxing and drinking lots of mimosas. Oh wait. I mean, I'm looking forward to drafting a Legal Writing Paper and studying for my Torts midterm while I'm there. Yes, this person actually looked at me and those words escaped his mouth. This was at 5:00 p.m. I had left my job early to come and participate in a SBA function - A Quiz Bowl - where all the first year sections competed against each other. My class had voted me in to represent the evening students. The question asked had been taught to the day sections, but not the evening sections, so we had no idea (and note - I had made sure to advise the question makers in ADVANCE that it would be unfair to ask certain questions, but alas). In response to me telling the host that the evening section had not progressed that far in Civil Procedure, he said those horrible words to me. You should have a been a day student.

Normally at 5:00 p.m., this jacktard is leaving the law school, getting ready to finish up his day. Going to whatever dwelling he lives in, able to watch tv, eat dinner, go to bed before 2:00 a.m. Me? I had been up for about 11 hours at this point, worked for eight, and still had a good five hours left before I'd take my weary ass home. I had only read 30/40 pages for my first class that night and hoped I could get those last ten pages down before class, or I'd start praying I didn't get called on. I hadn't seen my husband during daylight hours in three days. And he said this to me.

Listen. While, yes, ideally, only going to school would be a great situation, I happen to prefer mine. I have a job that I love, a home that I love, a car that I love, and enjoy going out to nice dinners and going on trips. My job provides me with practical experience that is going to put me in a much better situation than if I had been just gone to school for three straight years. Do you know what the difference is between me and you, day student? THREE CREDITS. THREE HOURS of class time a week. I have 12 credits - you have 15. I also work forty hours a week and still volunteer, find time to participate in class activities, and have a husband and a dog and fun.

Why, yes, maybe it might be the traditional way to go to law school, I would not trade a single student in my section (well, okay, maybe a few), a single professor I have (ok, again, maybe one of them), or a single experience to be a day student.

So, no, buddy, you should have been an evening student!JCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813803770209303100.post-58773132301815276012010-03-01T10:51:00.000-08:002010-03-01T10:52:12.326-08:00This does not bode well for me.Lawyer sells law degree on CraigsList.

Fail.JCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813803770209303100.post-38438068729308671322010-02-15T21:55:00.000-08:002010-02-15T21:59:12.120-08:00Do you think our section has one of these?

Highlights to consider:

"I'm going to set the curve!"

"Yeah, I highlight every word in my case book. I'm talking the worst parts of the worst cities in NJ ever. Yesterday was no exception. I was going to pick up a client's records for work from a really nice, ritzy, neighborhood. No problem. How did you take me? Through the worst section of Newark in the world. Dear lord. So, as I'm driving, this man knocks on my passenger side windows, frantically. I rolled it down enough to hear him say, "Don't you hear all the people honking at you? You are dragging your oil pan! Your car is smoking and sparks are everywhere! You are going to set your car on fire! Oh my god, pull over! I will help you!"

Stop. Jessica is not street smart. Jessica, however, realizing that her car is a lot smarter than she is, would have at least set off a billion buzzers by now and I would think I could hear or feel my car dragging something along side the Garden State Parkway, no?

However, my low air light came on earlier that day, so I was thinking, "OH MY GOD, the car is going to catch on fire."

But, I decided to pull into a gas station about a half block up. I'm, of course, wearing a suit skirt. I try to peer under the car to see if anything was dragging or if there is a trail of oil down S. Orange Avenue. I see neither. So I call my husband and explain the situation to him. Immediately he asks if there are lights blinking on the car. I told him no.

I then asked the proprietor of the gas station if he could help me. He looked under the car and also saw nothing. He had me drive around the gas station a few times and also saw nothing. He then looked at me and said, "They try to rob you and steal car. Not a good place. Get out. Roll up your windows, lock your doors and get away."

Hubs met me on the side of the parkway and he checked out the car. Nothing was wrong with it. Fabulous.

That goes in my ghetto story file for the week.JCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813803770209303100.post-66680328126170163512009-09-21T05:46:00.000-07:002009-09-21T05:53:54.481-07:00All nighter<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRigfJnShd8XiurNdUpZILNMeloSiHS-bn7BRoj6MMbecKkKFGlfxqcRCx_SLvtjwdrJFUeHflb7QWeQDwXOmTE8TTBOGLv4m32p4CBZ0ETwAkP6-6ZVKvs3O1r3FA7v64bZD7nMKOTZIt/s320/url.htm" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383902136335445378" />

Okay, it wasn't all night, but I'm old and 3:00 a.m. is late for me. Our first draft of our very first legal writing assignment was due this morning at 9:00 a.m. I started it last week and have been working on it. I just didn't realize how long it was going to take me to finish it up and the panic attack that would ensue at some point (thank you Bridgette for talking me off the ledge at midnight, LOL). I spent most of my weekend working on outlines and typing up notes, reviewing what we did in the first four weeks, and allotted a few hours for the assignment. Bad move.

Anyone, it's safe to say that I won't be putting anything off until last minute again. I did get to listen to lots of new music as I worked on it. I missed all of NFL football today. That sucked. And it's safe to say that today, I will be living on this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 125px; height: 251px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVBTGiAH1IVsQw8vG5XZqJumVk6D-gmwoEkY37gxUkMFSzNlwKAqMVS7VelyRJoof9qJ01QUXDh3A_hHMJxUmwda52bc82FO3_YNGMZ0CXKRkYKXW5_709oGeYwdQdNPzPvDxpx2xhcuFY/s320/java+monster.htm" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383902901453577074" />

So is Monday. As I remarked to my husband in the liquor store last night, law school has really improved my alcohol tolerance. I'm not joking - there is alcohol at every turn. Of course a house full of law school students and my BILs - we put down a few cases of beer. We didn't get to sleep until almost 4 and I had to be at SBA at 9:30 am. I made it!

I also got my school issued flu shot on Thursday. I figured if I'm going to be in close proximity to 70 other students, someone is bound to give someone else the flu and there is no way I can miss a week of work and school to be sick. Plus, I'm a BIG FAT BABY and cannot handle being sick. My arm still hurts from the shot. See? Big Baby.

Okay, need to knock out a Legal Writing Paper before Gametime! Fun times!JCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813803770209303100.post-27994414342419009402009-09-15T05:40:00.000-07:002009-09-15T05:44:28.884-07:00Three weeks under the beltThree weeks under my belt. I was elected to SBA and have now tried out for the ADR team (Alternative Dispute Resolution). One of my professors made me cry. I didn't read for a class and got called on (and did okay!).

My body has pretty much adapted to the schedule - the first two weeks were rough. I was mentally and physically exhausted. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to get all of my work done. I slept for sixteen straight hours yesterday. SIXTEEN. Do you think I might have needed it? I was up for six more hours and went back to sleep.

Tonight - Civil Procedure and Legal Writing. I have to finish a draft of my first assignment by Friday. I can do it, I think.JCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813803770209303100.post-47568121625315855792009-09-04T06:40:00.001-07:002009-09-04T07:37:54.124-07:00The Gamecocks Won!Another week of law school is over. If you are keeping track, this would be the second week. I will say I'm getting into a better routine and my body and mind are adjusting to the 14 hour days. I do miss my naps, though. Napping is a big deal in my family, both maternally and paternally. Big Al takes a nap everyday when he comes home from work and my mom is famous for yelling at me for interrupting her nap time when I call her on weekends.

Last night the Gamecocks played their first day and it happened to coincide with my Civil Procedure Class. That was sad. I like Civil Procedure, but I love my Gamecocks. Luckily, there was only about a 35 minute overlap and I was able to keep track of the score on ESPN360.

I think, however, my classmates underestimated my love of the Gamecocks. I showed up at school in a jersey and with a "Beat NC State" sticker on. I hope I didn't scare them with the whole "Go Gamecocks" thing.

Oh well. That's just Jess. Ha.

Up next: Georgia on September 12! Well, speaking of butt, I dropped my Canon Elph in the toilet at a bar on Saturday night, so I had to get a new one. Awesome. Note, this is not the expensive one listed below, this was out point and shoot that we got two years ago right after we got engaged. It was an amazing camera and I loved it. So, upon waking up on Sunday and realized the episode in the Bar B bathroom was not a dream, I drove to Best Buy and bought the above camera. It is 12 megapixels. I don't even know what that means, but evidently, that means awesome in camera language. Oh, and I got it in bright red. Not by choice, but I think it will be rocking.

Thank goodness our photos of the debaucherous evening (which included Java Monsters, Mac and Cheese, the East Village, a phone booth, dead raccoons, CRIF dogs, leaving my BIL in Manhattan, and an English girl telling people in the park not to sell drugs), were saved. I do need to upload those, but that would require time and the actual act of sitting in front of a computer that's not related to work or school.

This weekend. I promise. I also promise Jen I'll post snake and champagne photos.JCMAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11095461276126944337noreply@blogger.com1
